Our History

In 1993, an idea became reality when a small business owner of a healthcare staffing agency decided to begin conducting background checks on individuals who were being placed for jobs at different employers in the Washington Metropolitan Area.  The business owner partnered with a local retired police officer and a seasoned private investigator and together they formed a Licensed private investigation company called Global Investigative Services, Inc (Global).

During that time period, there was no internet, no databases like we know them today and a lot of challenges to obtain information on an individual.  Facsimile machines, also known as fax, were used to request checks by the employer and communicate with a court researcher.  The court researcher, still being used today, would travel to a courthouse to research information and fax back their results.  Phone calls were also made to courts, police stations and jails, just to locate potential information.  A report was typed up on a typewriter or a computer and the final report was faxed or mailed to the client.

Between 1996 and 1998, Linda Mack (CEO) and Marc Linchuck (COO) acquired the company and took Global into the new era. The new owners designed and developed a new technology, creating a platform where clients could submit background check requests securely, over the internet, and return the results. They introduced new services, products, and special programs, they expanded their capabilities nationwide and eventually internationally.  Over the next several years, as the demand for background checks grew, so did Global.  No longer were they focusing on small to mid-sized companies, but any size and any place in the world that needed background checks conducted.

In 2017, Global successfully completed the Background Screening Agency Accreditation Program and as such is recognized by the Professional Background Screening Association as an Accredited Background Screening Company.

In addition to being accredited, Global is a woman-owned business certified by the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), a member of Concerned CRA’s and we have certified we adhere to the Privacy Shield Principles as well as the EU’s GDPR.
